M.2 NGFF SSD ( 2242 )
M.2,also known as the Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF),is designed to replace the mSATA standard, which uses the PCI Express Mini Cardphysical layout. Smaller, more flexible, more advanced, the M.2 is more suitable for solid-state storage applications in general, especially in small devices like ultrabooks ortablets.
The M.2 standard is designed as a revisionand improvement to the mSATA standard, allowing for larger PCBs to bemanufactured. While mSATA took advantage of the existing PCI Express Mini Cardform factor and connector, M.2 has been designed to maximize usage of the cardspace, while minimizing the footprint.
